Screen Rooms: Enjoy Your Yard Without the Bugs
Wisconsin mosquitoes don’t care about your dinner plans. If you’ve ever tried to eat outside in June and given up by the second course, a screen room is the most practical solution we install. Full airflow, full protection from insects, and a covered roof that keeps you dry when the weather turns.
M2 Decks & Enclosures builds custom screen rooms using Betterliving’s extruded aluminum framing systems. We serve homeowners across 14 counties in southeast and south-central Wisconsin — from the lake communities around Pewaukee, Oconomowoc, and Delafield to cities like Milwaukee, Racine, Madison, and Kenosha.
Built With Extruded Aluminum
Betterliving screen rooms use either 1¾-inch or 3-inch extruded aluminum frame sections. Extruded aluminum is stronger and more precise than roll-formed aluminum — it holds its shape, resists corrosion, and won’t warp or bow over time.
Frame color options are White, Desert Sand, Earthstone, and Black. Black frames have become increasingly popular with homeowners in Brookfield and Waukesha — they give the room a more modern, defined look against lighter siding.
The screen mesh keeps insects out while preserving your view and letting every breeze through. You get the outdoor experience without the outdoor annoyances.
Screen Room vs. Sunroom: Making the Right Call
A screen room is open-air by design. There’s no glass, which means no weather seal. Rain can blow in on windy days. You’re not going to use it comfortably in November.

But here’s the thing — a screen room costs significantly less than a 3-season sunroom or a 4-season sunroom. If your primary goal is bug-free outdoor living from May through September, a screen room is the right tool for the job. Don’t overbuild for the problem you’re solving.

If you later decide you want glass, many screen rooms can be upgraded with 4-track stacking windows to convert the space into a 3-season enclosure. That kind of flexibility is valuable.
What We See Homeowners Do With Screen Rooms
Across our service area — Muskego, Hartland, New Berlin, West Bend, Fort Atkinson, Beaver Dam — screen rooms get used for:
- Outdoor dining without battling flies and mosquitoes
- Evening hangouts with a fire pit nearby and screens keeping the bugs at bay
- Kids’ play areas where you don’t have to constantly reapply bug spray
- Covered entertaining space for summer parties
- A spot to let the dog out without it disappearing after a squirrel.
They’re simple, they’re effective, and they make your backyard usable on nights when the mosquitoes would otherwise drive you inside.
Add Retractable Screens or Shades
Want even more versatility? Pair your screen room with retractable screens and vinyl shades to add wind protection or privacy on demand. Or add solar shades to manage sun exposure on the south or west side. We’ll help you design a system that works together.
